The European Parliament's plenary session endorsed on 25 October 2016 a non-legislative resolution urging the European Commission to review its legislation against corruption and organised crime to better equip member states in their fight against criminal organisations operating in the European Union. Members of the Parlament called for initiatives such as EU-wide rules to seize assets from criminal organisations to re-use for social purposes and protection of whistle-blowers. This resolution is a follow-up to an action plan against organised crime, corruption and money laundering adopted by the Parliament in October 2013 and drafted by the respective Special Committee (CRIM). This committee had been set up in March 2012. |
