Greek lawmakers passed the 2014 budget on the 8 December 2013, which predicted a return to growth after six straight years of painful recession.

However, talks with delegations from the IMF and European Commission over the next round of bailout funding had been delayed and would now take place in January 2014 instead of mid-December 2013.
