The largest and most advanced satellite ever built to monitor the Earth's changing environment, Envisat, will be launched by the European Space Agency from French Guyana, 1 March 2002. Envisat, an advanced polar-orbiting Earth observation satellite will provide measurements of the atmosphere, ocean, land, and ice over a five year period .
