New report predicts peak in Europe’s working age population

A new Council of Europe report, “Europe's Population and Labour Market beyond 2000”, published 21.6.00, predicts that the population of working age in Europe will peak in the next ten years before declining by around a quarter up to 2050. Edited by Aidan Punch and David L. Pearce, it examines likely demographic and labour market developments in Europe during the course of the coming decades and assesses how these will impact on policy formulation.
