Date: 12/12/1996 Social Affairs Commissioner Pádraig Flynn has added another golf enthusiast to his team - 46-year-old John Spencer is replacing deputy chef David O'Sullivan. Spencer is new to social affairs. Fish has been his speciality in recent years, although before transferring to the Directorate-General for Fisheries (DGXIV) he worked in financial control, having joined the Commission in 1973 from the Irish finance ministry. His appointment seems to have taken a few people by surprise. Many of the Flynn team know very little about their new colleague, and are brushing up on their golfing terms - Spencer has been working as hard on the fairway as in the office, dramatically reducing his handicap.
