New German SPD leader calls for unity with coalition partner

Although admitting the internal crisis in Germany's Social Democrat party had been damaging, the newly elected SPD Chairman, Matthias Platzeck, on 15 November 2005 called for the SPD to rally behind its government alliance with the Christian Democratic Union.
