Neil Kinnock's spokeswoman Sarah Lambert appears determined not to be overshadowed by her Commissioner.

No sooner had the transport supremo become a grandfather than Sarah became a mum, giving birth to a girl, Gabriella.

The baby is doing fine, but is still too young to be told about the interoperability of inter-modal transport systems.

Lambert's colleagues in the Spokesman's Service were quick to deploy the baby as a propaganda tool. Noting that her husband Miguel is a member of the Spanish press corps in Brussels, deputy chief spokesman João Vale de Almeida quipped: “It just goes to show what we can do when we work together.”

The full implications of this remark are still being studied by an expert working group on the interoperability of press and porte parole communications networks.
