Statewatch award:
Statewatch, the civil liberties group has been given a 'Freedom of Information Award' for its work 'challenging the secrecy of the European Union's Council of Ministers'. The Campaign for the Freedom of Information, which made the award in April 1998, said that State watch's challenges on access to documents concerning justice and home affairs and its complaints to the European Ombudsman 'represent significant steps towards holding this powerful body at least partly accountable for its decisions'.
