FARM ministers have endorsed a deal ending a six-year trade dispute between the EU and South Africa over wines and spirits. They backed agreements struck by EU negotiators last year, under which South Africa agreed not to use names such as sherry, port, Chianti and Champagne to describe its products.

Development Commissioner Poul Nielson said: 'This agreement...paves the way for more constructive and mature cooperation between the two sides.'
