On 13-15 April 2013 United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron spent a family / working weekend with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a castle near Berlin. The meeting gave the opportunity for wide ranging discussions in an informal setting. The two leaders sought to find common ground on an EU-US trade agreement, the fight against tax evasion, regulation and other issues.

The move came after Mr Cameron ruffled feathers in Berlin with his veto against a German-inspired EU treaty on fiscal discipline in December 2011 and a speech earlier in 2013 this year about the need to reassess Britain's role in the EU.
