German Economics Minister Michael Glos resigned on the 7 February 2009, seven months ahead of elections and with Europe's biggest economy in recession. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and his CSU (Christian Social Union) party accepted the resignation on the 8 February 2009. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg was sworn in as new Economics Minister on the 10 February 2009
