Summary: The European Commission approved unconditionally on 15 June 2018 under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Sky by Comcast. It followed the understanding that this transaction would raise no competition concerns in Europe. Further information: The transaction was notified to the Commission on 7 May. The Commission found that the proposed transaction would lead to only a limited increase in Sky's existing share of the markets for the acquisition of TV content, as well as in the market for the wholesale supply of TV channels in the relevant Member States. Comcast's offer to acquire Sky came as a counter-bid to an offer by Twenty-First Century Fox, which was cleared by the Commission in April 2017. Two companies entered into competition to take control over Sky. |
