Preview of the first meeting on 11 April 2005 in Brussels of the recently set up high level group CARS21 (Competitive Automotive Regulatory System for the 21st Century). The group's objective is to generate recommendations to improve the worldwide competitiveness of the European automotive industry. It shall make recommendations for the short, medium and the long term public policy and regulatory framework for the European automotive industry, that enhances global competitiveness and employment while sustaining further progress in safety and environmental performance at a price affordable to the consumer. The group is expected to adopt the CARS 21 Terms of Reference and Work plan and to have a first exchange of views on “a Competitive Automotive Industry Regulatory Framework”.
