Memo: Commission welcomes first step to improve air passengers rights and promises further measures

Voluntary arrangements to improve air passengers' rights were announced on 10.5.01 by the airlines and airports' associations at the EU-ECAC dialogue in Lisbon. Loyola de Palacio, the Commission Vice-President with responsibility for Transport and Energy said that it was essential that as many airlines and airports as possible sign up in order to turn these arrangements into reality. She also said that the European Commission would monitor the situation and legislate on the issues which had still not been addressed in the near future.
