A meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council was held on 21 April 2016 in Luxembourg. Its conclusions included the following items: + Discussion regarding security matters - following-up on the previous JHA Council meeting in March 2016 in the aftermath of the Brussels attacks - with a focus on the use and interoperability of databases and the proposals from the European Commission on the smart borders package; + Discussion on the implementation of the conclusions of the European Council summit held in March 2016 and the statement agreed by the EU and Turkey; + Exchange of views on the European Commission's communication on the reform of the common European asylum system; + Briefing on the progress of the proposal for a European border guard, on which the Council adopted its position on 6 April. |
