Summary: The United Kingdom has left the European Union. Negotiations are underway over a deal to shape the future relationship between the two parties. As things stand, there is no guarantee that such a deal will be agreed. Even if it is, the new relationship will imply significant changes in the way the UK and EU trade with each other. These impacts will vary significantly by sector and also by region. In this report, we investigate what they might be in the area of manufacturing. As the authors make clear, manufacturing is perhaps more significant to the UK economy as a whole than is generally realised, so the findings are of huge relevance. |
