The 'Managing the Crisis' study addresses the quality of political decision-making in response to the global financial and economic crisis. It offers a comparative assessment of economic governance in the world’s major economies and highlights the similarities and differences in political priorities and strategic choices. Based on 14 detailed country reports, it evaluates the crisis responses in advanced economies, such as Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as in the emerging economies of Brazil, Chile, China, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, South Korea and Turkey. The country reports assess the exposure to risk and initial impact of the crisis in each country. They provide details not only on agendasetting and policy formulation in response to the crisis, but also on specific policy contents, implementation, funding, tax and monetary policies, and evidence of lesson-drawing. Finally, the reports offer a tentative evaluation of the effectiveness of stimulus and stabilization packages. |
