The issue of gender segregation has been the subject of considerable academic and policy attention. This book focuses on the attempts made at the European level to incorporate equal opportunities into education and training policies. It examines in particular the evolution of approaches towards equal opportunities in policies and programmes. It analyses these shifts in terms of a conceptual framework which differentiates between equal treatment, positive action and discrimination, and, finally, the idea of 'feminising the mainstream' or 'mainstreaming equality', the key concept on the current agenda.
