Summary: Luxembourg is the first sovereign state to establish free public transport for all people within its territory in an effort to reduce car use and traffic jams.
While many cities have moved to reduce or eliminate fares from public transit, Luxembourg is the first state to fully fund its transport without the use of fares. Groundbreaking as well was the decision to make it a blanket rule, including commuters into the state as well as tourists. This is an effort to reduce traffic congestion as well as greenhouse gas emissions. |
