Summary:

Communication adopted by the European Commission on 16 March 2023, focusing on the long-term competitiveness of the European Union (EU) in the context of the 30th anniversary of the Single Market.

Further information:

The EU's Single Market is regarded as the engine of economic and social prosperity. In the face of successive crises, the EU has been able to bring in common and coordinated responses, adjusting economic and industrial policies to continue delivering prosperity and stability. Yet, crisis management does not future-proof the economy, and productivity cannot be built on the basis of reactive measures.

This Communication focuses on the longer-term competitiveness and productivity of the EU in an increasingly challenging geopolitical context. It looks beyond 2030, the year for which the majority of EU policy have been set. The document seeks to inform upcoming discussions in the European Council. It was adopted by the European Commission on 16 March 2023.
