The European Court of Justice ruled on 20 November 2001 in favour of Levi Strauss in a landmark verdict which will stop UK supermarket chain, Tesco, sourcing Levi jeans from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) - so-called 'parallel imports'. The Court ruled that parallel imports from outside the EEA were allowed only if there was clear consent from the owner of the trademark in question.
