Summary: Lebanon held a parliamentary election on 6 May 2018. Hezbollah and its political allies expanded their share of seats in the Parliament, increasing their political influence at the expense of the incument Prime Minister's party. The Free Patriotic Movement emerged as the largest bloc following the election. Further information: This was the first legislative election held since 2009. The poll was postponed in 2013, 2014 and 2017 for different reasons, including the security situation, the failure of the Parliament to elect a President for the country and technical requirements of holding an election. An electoral law adopted in 2017 introduced proportional representation in the country for the first time in history. |
