Latvia’s president nominates first female prime minister

Long-time civil servant Laimdota Straujuma was nominated on 6 January 2014 to become Latvia's first female prime minister and said the Baltic state would continue tight fiscal policies leading up to parliamentary elections in October 2014 if her cabinet was approved.
