The centre-right Christian Democrat party of Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker won the general election held on the 20 October 2013 but lost three seats. The CSV party polled 33.7% of the votes, a fall of 5% since the last elections in 2009. The CSV appeared to lose most ground to the third-placed Liberal DP opposition which gained four seats. Mr Juncker's coalition collapsed in July 2013 amid claims he had failed to stop illegal security agency activities. The prime minister had denied any wrongdoing. In the event a new government comprised of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party, the Democratic Party and The Greens was sworn in on the 4 December 2013. This replaced the previous Christian-Social government under Jean-Claude Juncker. |
