July and August account for one third of all annual nights spent in accommodation establishments in the EU

This 'Statistics in Focus' takes a closer look at the seasonal distribution of occupancy of tourist accommodation establishments in Europe in 2009. Reducing the seasonality in tourism is a growing priority for policy makers across Europe. A better use of the existing infrastructure and staff during the off-peak season can improve the productivity of business and the attractiveness of the sector as an employer.
