The European Court of Justice decided on 10 October 2016 that Italy had failed to fulfil its obligations under EU law as regards to just and appropriate compensation for victims of all violent intentional crimes committed in cross-border situations. The Court considered that member states must guarantee victims not only access to compensation in accordance with the principle of the prohibition of discrimination, but also a minimum level of compensation for all types of violent crime. |
