Summary: Communication jointly adopted on 16 December 2020 by the European Commission and the EU's High-Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, setting out a new cyber-security strategy for the European Union (EU). Further information: The strategy aims to bolster the EU's collective resilience against cyber threats and help to ensure that citizens and businesses can fully benefit from trustworthy and reliable service and digital tools. It also aims to allow the EU to step up leadership on international norms and standards in cyberspace, and to strengthen cooperation with partners around the world to promote a global, open, stable and secure cyberspace, grounded in the rule of law, human rights, fundamental freedoms and democratic values. The Joint Communication was adopted on 16 December 2020 alongside two legislative initiatives addressing some of its elements:
The Council of the European Union adopted a set of conclusions relating to this Strategy on 22 March 2021. |
