Italy seeks to reassure over budget deficit

In a letter, the Italian Minister of Finance, Giulio Tremonti, reassured the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Pedro Solbes, of Italy's determination to hold to the target of keeping the budget deficit in accordance with the Stability Pact. Tremonti had earlier warned about a much higher than expected deficit.
