As Silvio Berlusconi seems to be standing aside, the spotlight is on Mario Monti and the candidates of the Left. Under whatever guise it is felt that current technocratic Prime Minister Mario Monti will play a significant role after a general election in 2013 - possibly as Prime Minister, Finance Minister or President of Italy, before possibly trying to become President of the European Council in 2014.
