Italy's commercial banks should not complain if foreign banks acquire them because the process of domestic consolidation is too slow, Mario Draghi, Governor of the Bank of Italy, said 12 July 2006 in a blunt warning to the country's banking leaders. 'It is desirable that the process of consolidation in the banking sector should start up again', Mr Draghi told Italy's banking association.
