The Sub-Committee was set up to consider Ireland’s future in the European Union in light of the Lisbon referendum result. On 21 November 2008, at its final meeting, presentations were made to the Sub-Committee by representatives of several organisations that campaigned against the Treaty of Lisbon, including Joe Higgins, Socialist Party leader; Patricia McKenna, former Green Party MEP; Anthony Coughlan, President of the European Foundation for Democracy; and Roger Cole of the Peace and Neutrality Alliance.
