The Irish government’s chances of winning the referendum on the European Union’s Lisbon reform treaty planned for the 12 June 2008 were boosted on 3 June 2008 when the influential Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) voted to recommend a Yes vote. To secure their suppport the Irish PM has pledged to veto any EU trade deal that harms Irish farming.
