A number of strategies were outlined, on 16 May 2013, to increase participation in EU funded Research and Innovation at the all-island 'Collaborate to Innovate: Access Horizon 2020' conference. The conference was organised by InterTradeIreland in association with the Irish Presidency of the EU Council and showcased assistance that will be available to companies and researchers in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Europe to prepare for the upcoming expected €70 billion R&D and innovation fund Horizon 2020 which will come on stream in 2014. The new fund will provide increased opportunities and a more simplified process to encourage greater participation amongst SMEs.

This was the third ‘collaborate to innovate’ conference entitled 'Access Horizon 2020' which had the principal objective to help companies and researchers in Ireland and Northern Ireland to prepare for the upcoming Horizon 2020.
