The past and present of gender equality were discussed at a European Parliament Women's Rights Committee seminar marking International Women's Day on 8 March 2007. MEPs reviewed the achievements and persistent inequalities in women's rights and gender equality over the past 50 years, concluding that though much has been done, even more remains to be done. Participants included EP President Hans-Gert Pöttering, employment and equal opportunities Commissioner Vladimír Špidla and former Commissioner Anita Gradin.
