Summary: The multilateral trading system – embodied by the WTO – has played a vital role in facilitating global trade and make its benefits available to developed and developing nations alike. But today, the WTO faces many challenges and criticisms. An expert group established by the Bertelsmann Stiftung is working on recommendations how the WTO and its members can respond to these challenges and bolster the functioning of the multilateral trading system. Its main considerations are summarized in this interim report. |
