Infographic: 700 million underage girls married in 2013

EurActiv reported on the 25 July 2014 that although child marriage was prohibited by international law, over 700 million underage girls were married worldwide, particularly in Africa and Asia.

Discussing the information published in a UNICEF report 'Ending Child Marriage: Progress and prospects, EurActiv said that child marriage was a widespread practice across the world.

The phenomenon was particularly strong in Southern Asia (one in two women), and in Sub-Saharan Africa (one in three women).
