The UK biofuels industry as represented by the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC)has joined forces with opponents of Europe’s push for a rapid increase in the use of fuels from plants who fear the practice could cause more environmental harm than good.

In addition, The Royal Society said in a report 'Sustainable Biofuels: prospects and challenges' that biofuels risk failing to deliver significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from transport and could even be environmentally damaging unless the UK Government puts the right policies in place.
