Increased Cryptosporidium infections in the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Germany in 2012

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), in November 2012, reported that there had been an increase in cryptosporidiosis notifications in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany in late summer-autumn 2012. To date, no other countries had reported an unusual increase in reported number of cryptosporidiosis cases.

Cryptosporidiosis is a parasitic disease, caused by Cryptosporidium, which is often spread through contaminated water.
