Summary: Implementing Act - adopted by the European Commission through urgency procedure on 14 March 2020 - providing for authorisation for exports to third countries of certain products. Further information: The Act was adopted as part of the efforts to protect citizens and to coordinate the response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. It aims to protect the availability of supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE), by requiring that exports of such equipment outside of the European Union (EU) are subject to an export authorisation by Member States. The Act is to be valid for six-week period, during which Member States are consulted on the potential adaptations and scope of the existing measure and future steps. The Commission vowed to assist Member States in setting up the relevant mechanism to ensure a smooth and coordinated implementation of the regulation, having regard to factors such as international engagements, the evolution of urgent needs within and outside the EU, and the integration of production and supply chains with such third countries. |
