The COST Action C2: 'Large-scale infrastructures and quality of urban shape', launched in July 1994, is one of the actions of the urban civil enigneering domain of the COST programme. Its main objective has been to promote research in Europe into the impact of large-scale civil engineering works on the quality of the town shape. This publication, which groups the main cases that served as a basis for the work of this action, is divided into three sections: development and reconstruction of major urban roads and motorways; examples of cities where sustainable transport policies are being considered; relationship of rail networks and nodes with the urban environment.
