The possibility that the United Kingdom (UK) might withdraw from the European Union (EU) does still look unreal to many people. It has however become less unrealistic.

This is the case since the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, announced the holding of a referendum on the UK's membership of the EU in 2017, should his political party remain in power after the 7 May 2015 general elections.
