French President François Hollande said on 2 August 2013 that a ban on growing genetically modified corn by agriculture giant Monsanto would remain in place, despite a court ruling reversing the suspension.
France's Council of State ruled that a moratorium imposed by France on growing MON810 corn – one of two kinds of genetically modified (GM) food crops whose cultivation is approved by the European Union – failed to uphold EU law.
