The American company, Procter & Gamble, fears that stores will be clogged with baffled customers and long checkout queues following the introduction of euro notes and coins on 1 January 2001. The company has been encouraging eurozone shoppers to stockpile their products (such as Pampers nappies/diapers) in the final weeks of 2001, reducing the need to buy in the early days of the transition period.
