Here endeth the final lesson

Henri Brugmans, the first rector of the College of Bruges and first president of the Union of European Federalists, has been granted his last wish.

After his death earlier this month at the age of 90, Brugmans' body was left to lie in state in the lobby of the college for four days. In a letter to the students, current Rector Otto van der Gablenz said Brugmans had spent the most interesting part of his life among students and had requested that his body be left in their midst for four days. “Although the bar will be closed during these few days, other activities will carry on.
