Information sources in grey literature, 4th ed.:
Grey literature - variously defined as unconventional literature, literature not available via traditional publishing and publications with little or no general distribution-is a vital source of information for researchers, academics and policymakers. Bowker Saur have published the fourth edition of their guide which aims to help locate and evaluate such material. The guide provides general information on the nature and development of grey literature; grey literature collections and methods of acquisition; and bibliographical control, cataloguing and indexing. Subsequent chapters look at specific types of grey literature such as theses translations, meetings papers, aerospace, life sciences, business and economics, education, energy and science and technology. The chapter covering the European Community should be of most interest to readers of European Access, but I have to say that I find this chapter rather disappointing as it hardly begins to discuss what I would regard as grey literature and rather concentrates on standard EU publications and documents. I suspect that specialist writers are needed to cover different aspects of grey literature.
