Book abstract:

This is the fifth in the series of short bibliographical guides on subjects related to the European Union's policies and activities written by European Information Association (EIA) members. The guides give background information to the subjects covered followed by key and recent references from EU official and commercial sources in both printed and electronic form.
Some of the greatest problems facing organisations wishing to participate in the EU research programmes is the need to obtain comprehensive and timely information on potential opportunities, the complex nature of application procedures, and the very tight deadlines for the submission of proposals. This guide aims to identify the sources most useful for specific purposes. Section A looks at general sources, for example it gives details of sources of information on funding opportunities, EU research policy and relevant legislation. Section B identifies specific target areas: arts and culture; business and industry; environmental research; education, local government and voluntary sector; and libraries. Section C lists books and guides on application and evaluation procedures and finally, section D provides some useful addresses. At 32 A5 pages, this guide is concise, and provides key information for anyone wanting to explore the possibilities of gaining research funding from the EU.
