Article reports that several of the world’s biggest oil companies are vying for access to Greenland after a gas discovery by Cairn Energy in August 2010 raised expectations for offshore exploration around the Arctic island nation, in spite of environmental concerns over drilling in an area known as 'iceberg alley'.

For Greenland oil revenues could transform an economy hitherto dominated by fishing and advance its push for full independence from Denmark.
