The Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos warned Greek Members of Parliament in late March 2012 against undermining reforms agreed with international lenders in an attempt to boost their popularity as the country headed for elections in May 2012.

Mr Papademos, the former central banker serving as interim premier, cracked down after deputies proposed scores of amendments to key spending legislation due to be rushed through parliament in the early April.
