Greece's prime minister Alexis Tsipras held an emergency meeting with key ministers on 2 April 2016 following the publication of a leaked transcript of a conversation that alledgedly took place between Poul Thomsen, the head of the IMF's European department, and Delia Velculescu, the IMF mission chief for Greece. In the conversation, the two officials appeared to discuss putting pressure on Germany over the Eurozone’s position regarding Greece’s bailout review by threatening that the IMF will leave the program. IMF chief Christine Lagarde later said that the Washington-based institution was a 'good distance away' from agreeing on a program for Greece, while asking the Greek government to respect the privacy of IMF staff. |
