Article reports that the Greek government is considering 22 February 2010 fresh tax increases and public sector pay cuts despite facing a general strike during the forthcoming week over its austerity plans.

No decisions had been made but the matter is expected to be discussed with officials from the European Commission, the European Central Bank and technical experts from the International Monetary Fund when they arrive in Athens during the week to assess the progress in tackling a budget deficit of 13% of gross domestic product.
